Re: illa lingua, my friends would crack this joke whenever we were all in Vegas:

"Videsne poker?"
"Video poker."

We would also try to translate the base of that statue of Hadrian (I think it was he) outside of Caesars Palace before their big remodel seven or eight years ago, but none of us had a good-enough command of Latin at the time to understand even the formulaic phrases!
